Urban Farming
Session time slot
  • Session TU3 | Tuesday 16 March | 14:00-14:45
Synopsis
Urban farming faces the environmental challenges of the world’s rapidly growing urban population and proposes an innovative solution to fresh food supply using as little land, energy and water as possible, whilst minimising food miles and environmental impact. Valcent’s new VertiCrop High Density Growing System uses vertical growing space to produce an innovative and economically viable design for the sustainable cultivation of leaf crops, herbs and fruit, using only 5% water and increasing crop yields by up to 20 times conventional open field growing. It can be located in any location and any climate, and the company is convinced it offers part of the solution the world’s ever growing demand for more food from less available agricultural land.
