Biography
James is an experienced consultant in product ecolabelling, product life cycles and sustainable procurement having worked for both Government and private sector clients. Many aspects of the projects he has undertaken involved gathering, using and developing life cycle impact data, interpreting this information and assessing where and to what extent the key impacts lie for a particular product or service. This has often then been applied to a particular Government policy. This part of his work can be broadly categorised into three main areas;
• Developing product specifications for sustainable procurement for Government and private purchasing, consulting with Government and industry on which products and services to include and where to set environmental performance standards. Assessing the sustainable procurement activities of Government Departments.
• Participation in the European Ecolabel for consumer products, developing and presenting the UK position on product criteria development such that they are challenging but workable and based on sound scientific evidence.
• Calculating carbon footprints and assessing environmental impacts of a variety of products for various clients, the information from which can be used by the client to reduce their own resource consumption or influence that of others
